We recently partnered with elected officials and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) to provide homeowners in East New York with information about foreclosure rescue scams and how they can connect with free housing counseling and legal services offered by our partners.
East New York is home to many working- and middle- class families and has recently been making news as one of the proposed neighborhoods to be re-zoned as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Housing New York plan.
On March 10th, we worked with Council Member Inez Barron and the Office of the New York State Attorney General to organize a scam prevention and awareness forum at P.S 30 Roberto Clemente. We brought together a panel of housing advocates to discuss the types of scams affecting homeowners in East New York. The panelists engaged in an informative discussion with the audience and addressed their scam related questions and concerns.
On March 19th, we participated in the HPD Homeowner Night at I.S 302. The event was co-sponsored by Council Members Inez Barron and Rafael Espinal. The event was well attended by over 120 homeowners. I spoke to the homeowners about our foreclosure prevention services and AGScamHelp, a web-based app we created we created in partnership with the New York State Office of the Attorney General to help homeowners identify foreclosure rescue scams and find free help. Homeowners were also very interested in learning about our Escalations program that helps homeowners experiencing delays or other issues while seeking modifications.
East New York is a unique, vibrant community. We look forward to continuing to work with the leaders and elected officials to preserve and protect affordable homeownership in East New York and throughout New York City.
